Cornerstone Church of Cochran to open food bank as a drive through Thursday.

Cornerstone Church of Cochran will open their food bank this Thursday from 11 am to 2 pm while supplies last. It's open to "anyone needing a free box of food and love." Cornerstone Pastor Stephen White said to ensure safety, it will be conducted as a drive through. Volunteers will pray, fill out paperwork, and hand out pre-packed boxes of food to people while they remain in their cars. The church is located at 129 E. Beech Street.

Middle Georgia State moving to online classes for remainder of semester.

The University System of Georgia decided last night all 26 member institutions, including Middle Georgia State University, would move to online instruction in all classes for the remainder of the semester except in very limited cases. While faculty and staff will be teleworking off campus, the university will remain open on a limited basis.

Former Lady Royal Brown ends Juco career on high note.

Former BCHS basketball player Jahnaria Brown closed out her junior college basketball career with a pair of awards. Brown, who played for Georgia Highlands College, was named last month to the GCAA All Region Team. She was recently named a WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) All-American. This season, Brown averaged 13.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, and shot 50 percent from the field. According to reports, she has several Division I offers and will be making an announcement soon.

The Cochran Bleckley Recreation Department has closed its fields and gym to the public due to COVID-19. They've also posted a plan for spring sports affected that includes Friday games once things resume.

Landon Padgett Foundation Board of Trustees announces postponement of 5K, 1 mile fun runs.

The Landon Padgett Foundation Board of Trustees announced this year's scheduled "Run for a Dream" 5K and one-mile fun run has been postponed to help combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus. A statement issued by the board reads in part "We created this organization to continue Landon’s remarkable legacy dedicated to the health and well-being of children and young people. This is more than our mission, it is what guides our every decision. After much research and consideration, we realize we simply cannot adequately ensure the health and safety of our participants, volunteers and staff." The statement goes on to encourage people to check the website (landonpadgett.org), Facebook, and registration pages for a new date and more info.
