Open House offered more than just a chance to meet with teachers. ***Article repaired.***


Most of the time, open house at school provides a chance for parents to meet with their children’s teachers. That took place Tuesday night at Bleckley County Middle School’s open house. But parents could also get help in accessing both PowerSchool to check things like grades and attendance as well as DragonFly, the platform used to handle athletic medical records. Students must have an updated physical in the system to participate. There were also other booths such as Communities In Schools/Family Connection and a place to buy congratulatory ads for the yearbook.

In other BCMS news, the school was one of three Georgia schools chosen as a Capturing Kids Hearts National Showcase School nominee. The award, presented by the Flippen Group, recognizes schools that “go the extra mile each day, creating the socio-emotional safety on school campuses that is conducive to learning.” Learn more about the award by clicking the link. Basketball teams swept at Veterans.

BCHS was swept in their season series against Veterans High School, losing both games played in Kathleen Tuesday night. The lady Royals lost 51-46, the Royals 57-31. It will be Senior Night when BCHS hosts Southwest January 31. Varsity tip time is 6 pm.

Local pediatrician Dr. Bill's Kids is again in need of non-perishable food donations for the backpack project which provides food local children who might go hungry when not attending school. Items can be dropped off at the office, 366 GA 26.

Bleckley County Retired Educators will meet February 5 at noon in the county extension office main building, 165 E. Peacock Street. A representative from Central Georgia Technical College will be the guest speaker. Members should contact Carolyn Mulkin by February 2 to confirm their meal.

Offenses struggle in split with Dodge County.

Destiny Mathis mad this layup.
Both the Lady Barons and Barons had second half offensive struggles at home Monday afternoon versus Dodge County. While the girls were able to hang on and win, the boys struggles led to their second loss of the season.
