Second half runs help basketball teams sweep East Laurens.

BCMS looked to sweep the season series against East Laurens when they traveled to the House of Gold Thursday afternoon. The Lady Barons scored seven unanswered in the third to take a 38-16 lead. Though the Lady Falcons opened the fourth on a 7-0 run, BC still prevailed 44-33. Kristeria Stanley and Ter’Nazia Elvine had 13 points each. My’Jayla Stanley had 12 points.
After the Barons took a 12-point lead in the third quarter, East Laurens closed on a 9-0 run to draw within 28-25. BC though held the Falcons to two points in the fourth, winning 39-27. Omari Jackson led with 16 points. Iverson Baker had 10 points. BCMS hosts Dodge County January 27 at 4 pm.

BCHS students to compete in student chef competition.

A group of Bleckley County Food and Nutrition students will join teams from across Georgia to enter their creative school lunch recipes in the fourth annual Georgia Student Chef Competition that will be held at Helms College in Macon on February 20. Students Breanna Arnold, Katie Burke and Hope Dominy will prepare their recipe, Caribbean Jerk Chili with Brown Rice.
Developed by the trio, the dish consists of spicy chicken, kidney beans, peppers, onions and tomatoes served over a bed of whole grain rice. They’ll have to prepare it for a panel of judges at the competition, which is sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education. Best of luck to the students who will be representing Bleckley County.
