They got knocked down but they got up again to have a great season.

The "Royal Award" is given by coach Heather Davis to squad members who will go above and beyond, do whatever is needed for the benefit of all. Davis elected to give the award to everyone as she thought all o them did what whatever was asked.
Like the song by Chumbawamba, this year's competition squad got knocked down by a controversial finish at region, then struggled at sectionals. But like the song, they got up again to finish third at state. Monday night, the squad, families, and coach Heather Davis met at Sugarberry's to celebrate the great season one final time with the annual end of year awards banquet.

Cross country teams celebrate great seasons.

(Photos courtesy BleckleyProgress.com contributor.) Spectacular years have become common for cross country, but that’s what both the middle and high school teams had. The Runnin’ Baron girls won region and small school division state titles. The boys finished region runner up and third at state. For high school, both teams won region. The girls won a fourth straight state title, with the boys finishing third.
As per tradition, both middle and high school runners, along with families, gathered in the auditorium to celebrate the year. Awards were as follows. Middle school Runners of the Year. Sixth grade: Ava Herrington, Jay Johnson/Peyton Bowen. Seventh grade: Ellen Arnold, Briggs Dominy. Eighth grade: Johna Bowen, Gage Rogers. Overall Runners of the Year: Ella Gibbs, Landon Ashley. High school. Greatest improvement: Juliet Cairney/Austin Perez, Kson Jones. Runners of the Year. Ninth grade: Mai Lei Long/Brianna Gibberson, Luke Churchwell. Tenth grade: Emily Youngblood, Kson Jones. 11th grade: Juliet Cairney/Christa Hall, Kyle Youngblood. 12th grade: Austin Perez, Elijah Smeltzer. Overall Runners of the Year: Tristan Crosby, Garrett Rogers. Congratulations to all the award winners.

Giving the gift of life.

If one were to ask what the American Red Cross wanted for Christmas, volunteers would say blood donations to help with their life-saving efforts. Monday afternoon, local residents gave that gift at a drive held at the county extension office. Another drive will take place in mid February.
