Pilot Club of Cochran raises money for Alzheimer's research.

(Courtesy BleckleyProgress.com contributor.) Pilot Club of Cochran had a team in the Central Georgia Walk to End Alzheimer’s September 28 a t Middle Georgia State University in Macon. Team members Maureen Stoy, Neta O’Berry, Julia Lucas. And Mike Stoy (not pictured) were able to collect over $1,500 in support of helping to find the first survivor of this disease. Their walk was dedicated to Bert O’Berry, Neta’s husband, who passed away due to Alzheimer’s last March.

High School Sports
Runnin' Royals brave the heat to win.



Head coach Shelly Cranford has always trained cross country team members to be ready to run regardless of the weather. Temperatures neared 100 degrees as BCHS runners took the course at the Bleckley County Invitational. Despite the heat, both teams finished first in the AA division. Teams will be off until October 17 when they host the Tune up 2-miler at 5 pm.

Middle School Sports
Barons jump out early, hold on to beat Raiders.


BCMS jumped out to a 30-8 halftime lead versus West Laurens but had to hold off a rally by the Raiders, winning 38-30. The Barons must beat J.R. Trippe October 9 to secure a playoff spot. Kickoff is 4:30 pm in Cochran. Eighth grade recognition will take place at halftime.

Survivors, those impacted by cancer, invited to participate in Cancer Awareness Night at October 11 football game.

October 11 will be Cancer Awareness Night when the Royals host Washington County at 7:30 pm. Survivors of cancer and anyone whose life has been impacted by the disease are invited to line up by the players entrance tunnel at 7:15 pm to release balloons.

BCMS Social Contract Champions for September.

Bleckley County Middle School announced their “Social Contract Champions” for September this afternoon. Students were chosen by their grade level teachers based upon behavior, academics, attendance, and abiding by classroom social contracts. Sixth grade: R.J. Johnson, Jada McClary, Emily Maddox, Jordyn Floyd, Mallory McDaniel, Aubree Gay, Whitney Hatcher, Jay Johnson.
Seventh grade: Tanner Holley, Megan Tingey, Logan Camp, Axel Briones, Asa Williams, Carter Willingham, Jaleya Brown, Landon Martin.


Eighth grade: Rylee Little, Avery Cavanah, Kemyah Anderson, Mckenzie Hattaway, Will Giles, Grace Odom, Kenna Bowman, Heavenly Ates.
