Shotgun teams take aim for the final time this season.

(Courtesy BleckleyProgress.com contributor.) The Bleckley County Shotgun teams wrapped up their season at the Georgia SCTP State Championships held at the Forest City Gun Club in Savannah. Finishing third in trap competition was the Intermediate Advanced Squad. Pictured left to right is coach Todd Kirkpatrick with team members Katie Thompson, Zeb DuBois, Brayden Lucas, Zane Lassiter and Rylee Little.
The Senior/Junior team finished second in trap. Team members pictured are as follows. Bottom row, left to right: Lexi McHolan, Jon Eric Watson, Tucker Holland and coach Todd Kirkpatrick. Top row: Jessi Kirkpatrick and Joni Lucas. Holland won first individually with a score of 97/100.


Two senior graduating members of the team were recipients of the Seth Stapleton Memorial Scholarship, via the Lake Oconee Shotgun team. Receiving $1,000 scholarships were Emilee Hutchens and Chandler Peacock. They’re pictured with Ray Stapleton of the Seth Stapleton Memorial Fund, Inc.

Turner Chapel AME Church will celebrate its 155th anniversary June 23 at 2:30 pm. Guest speaker will be Rev. Lewis Toles, pastor of Lizzie Bloomer and St. Paul Baptist Churches. Turner Chapel is located at 163 N. Seventh Street in Cochran.

Four BCHS golfers receive all state honors.

Four members of the Bleckley County High School golf program have been chosen for the Georgia High School Golf Coaches Association All State Team. All were nominated by BCHS head coach Dave Wiegert and selected by member coaches. Receiving AA All State honors for the girls was Brooke Krieg, McKinley Cranford, and Lucy Wiegert. Ty Cranford was chosen from the boys. This was the second all state selection for both Krieg and Ty Cranford. Coach Wiegert said in a statement, “I am very proud to have had their hard work and efforts recognized by others around the state. They deserve it!”

Tough start for 12u baseball.



The 12u baseball all stars made their season debut at GRPA district Monday night against Evans County. Bleckley gave up seven runs in the first en route to a 15-0 loss. Their only baserunners were three walks. BC plays Metter tomorrow at 4 pm in Eastman.
