Multiple groups holding fundraisers May 11. ***Updated***

Three groups will be holding fundraisers in the Pre-K parking lot May 11 located at 242 E. Dykes St. The Royal Kingsmen Dazzlers will have a bake sale from 8 am-until to pay off band costs. The BCHS Beta Club will hold a Jodi's Accessories Tent Sale to raise funds for students attending national competition this summer in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It lasts from 9 am-5 pm. FFA will also be holding their plant sale.

We are proud of all the players for the hard work and determination they showed throughout the season. BCHS senior named 2019 Georgia Scholar.

Bleckley County High School senior McKinley Cranford was recently one of several seniors across the state to be selected as a 2019 Georgia Scholar. The program is an initiative of the Georgia Department of Education that, according to a release, “identifies and honors high school seniors who have achieved excellence in school and community life.” It goes on to describe eligible students as those who “who have carried exemplary course loads during their four years of high school; who performed excellently in all courses; who successfully participated in interscholastic events at their schools and in their communities; and who have assumed active roles in extracurricular activities sponsored by their schools.” Cranford, an honor graduate, has been active in numerous activities during her school career including 4-H, One Act Play, cross country, track, and golf. She is the daughter of Shelly and Michelle Cranford of Cochran.

Young middle school golf teams making progress.

(Photos courtesy BleckleyProgress.com contributor.) The BCMS boys and girls golf teams are young. Of the nine players, only three have previous experience. However, coach Danny Jones has been pleased with how both teams have played during the season. Monday was their final regular season matches, a three-team affair against Jeff Davis and West Laurens at Green Acres golf club in Dexter. Both teams finished third.
Jones said in a text message that everyone played well, and scores were getting lower. Team members are as follows. Girls: Lacy Lucas, Ivy Wynne, Malorie Warren, and Ella Johnson. Boys: Chace Jones, Weston Skipper, Kaleb McGuire, Landon Ashley, and Grayson Anderson.


MGMSAA region will be at Uchee Trail May 13 (girls) and 14 (boys) starting at 9:30 am each day. Both tournaments will be 18 holes.
