BCMS Students of the Month.

Bleckley County Middle School recently recognized students chosen by teachers and classmates for giving the best effort in the classroom. Sixth grade: Tristen Dykes, Leo Santiago, Hayden Sorick, McKayla Reeves, Fiona Hill, Anilah Love, Maci Mitchell, Landon Godwin.
Seventh grade: Presley Tarpley, Emily Ferrel, Sylvia Dang, Ansleigh Tucker, A'Riyah Pickett, Kate Williams, Mason Herndon, Abigail Patat.

Eighth grade: Brileigh Scaggs, Sophia Dang, Parthiv Patel, Randy Brown, Kix Foskey, Henry Ruiz-Gonzalez, Presley Banderas, Patrice Owens.

Bleckley County Fire Department hosts crisis training class.

Bleckley County Fire Department hosted CIT (Crisis Intervention Team Training) last week taught by the Georgia Public Safety Training Center.) It consisted of a 40-hour class and skills evaluation. Participants were required to get an 80 percent on the written test and pass the skills challenge. The training teaches crisis intervention to aid those who’ve experienced trauma including training for mental health, substance abuse, and legal issues as well as how to de-escalate situations. Those taking the class included officers from Bleckley County Fire Department, Bleckley County Sheriff’s Office, Cochran Police Department, and Middle Georgia State University Police Department among many others.

(Photo contributed.) Kelsey Sanders and Kayleigh Sanders competed at the Bridge Run in Brunswick February 15. Kayleigh finished with the third fastest time overall, 23:10 and Kayleigh finished first in her age group with a time of 23:42.

Food bank distribution at local churches this week.

Middle Georgia Food Bank will have their mobile food pantry at Tabernacle of Testimony, 188 Dinah Street, February 20 from 11 am to 2 pm. Faith Temple Precious Faith Ministries located at 383 GA 87 will open their food bank February 21 from 3:30 to 4 pm. Both events are drive-thru, please stay in your car upon arrival.

Meeting day for DDA board changed.

At their last monthly meeting, the Downtown Development Authority board voted to have all future meetings on the third Tuesday of the month. Their next meeting will be February 18 at 5:30 pm in the conference room at the Chamber of Commerce.
