Open house for new all-girls school held.

 

An open house was held Saturday for Beauty from Ashes Youth Leadership Academy.  It was started by Sonya Wright.  She and husband Lee moved to Cochran in February.  They’re founding pastors of Elevation Worship Ministries, a newly formed church.

 

 

 

 

Both are located 123 North Second Street with the school serving as an extension of the church.  Wright said the idea to start the school came from God putting on her heart to do  something for girls in the community.  BFA is a fully accredited school by the Association of Christan Schools International,

They offer a full 180 day school year for girls in grades four through seven. School hours are from 8 am to 2:45 pm.

 

 

 

 

The curriculum comes from BJU Press, a provider of Christian curriculum for Christian schools and homeschooling families.  Monday through Wednesday is for standard instruction.  Thursdays are for leadership enrichment offering things such as public speaking. art, and financial literacy.  Homeschool students are allowed to come on Thursdays to enjoy the programs offered.

 

Fridays are a hybrid worship day with parents overseeing learning at home while teachers review and grade assignments.  Wright stressed the school wasn’t meant to take away from anything, but to offer more choices.  For example, parents who might want to have their child in an all0-girl Christian school.

 

A look at some of the curriculum.

 

BFA also offers smaller class sizes,, something else that might appeal to parents.  The academy is the first of its kind, the first all-girl Christian school in Cochran.  While the focus has been on the opening of the school, Pastor Lee Wright will also be offering a program for boys.
