The summer reading program continued at the Tessie W. Norris Library Wednesday afternoon with a program entitled "Juggle like an Egyptian." It was done by Ron Anglin. Anglin, owner of the company What a catch juggling has a had a varied career life. He was in the US Army and also taught high school for nine years. Besides traveling around to do his juggling program, he also works as a clown in hospitals. Children (and adults) were amazed by the displays of skill he showed juggling and balancing things. There was enough comedy from deliberate drops to keep the giggles flowing and the energy going. Next Wednesday will be "Diggery's Dino Adventure" at 10 am.
Both Cochran City Hall and the Bleckley County Courthouse have announced via Facebook they would be closed Friday July 3 in observance of July 4.
(Photos contributed.) The Bleckley County Fire Department purchased 15 infrared cameras thanks to the proceeds from their Boston Butt sale in November. The cameras will be placed in each engine and will also be given to some officers. The cameras will help in cases where a fire at a fire scene or a hot spot is invisible to the naked eye.
During last night's thunderstorms, two trees were knocked down at Bethany Baptist Church. According to an email from a reader, one hit two cars in the parking lot, the other fell on to the pastorium. The church did announce via Facebook that Vacation Bible School would continue tonight. The post asked cars to park in the lot on the side of the church next to Country Club Road near the middle school.
Orders can also be placed by calling (478)955-6900.
All are welcomed.
Former BCHS boys basketball coach Clifford Kerbo has passed away. The announcement came Sunday via the Dublin City Schools Facebook page where he almost coached. A contributed photo of the 10u team. The 10u All Stars Baseball Team won the Dixie Youth State Title Saturday in Waynesboro, defeating Schley County 10-1. It's the third straight state title for this group of players. They advance to the World Series in Laurel, Mississippi July 22-27.
The Royal Kingsmen Band held a car wash and bake sale Saturday in the Citizens Bank of Cochran parking lot. While band members cleaned vehicles and stood on street corners to advertise and collect donations, parents tended to the bake sale which featured a wide variety of sweet treats. Sunset Slush was there for anyone needing a way to cool off from the summer sun. The band will hold a preview of this year's halftime show July 31 at 7 pm in Royal Stadium.
