BCMS hosted a basketball tournament Saturday  It provided an opportunity for the upcoming teams to get some work.  Besides the Barons and Lady Barons, Dodge County, Telfair County, and Wilkinson County middle schools participated.

The 8u team.                       (All photos contributed.)  State tournament action continued for Bleckley All Star teams Saturday.  In Sandersville- the 6u coach pitch team won state 14-4 over Crawford County.  They got to the championship via an opening 18-8 win vs Crawford and a 15-5 game two triumph versus Seminole County.  The 8u baseball team split games, beating Irwin County but losing to Seminole County.  They play tomorrow at 10 am.  In Waynesboro- the 8u softball team finished third at state, losing to Schley County 9-2.  They did pick up the sportsmanship trophy.  The 10u team won state with a 10-0 win versus host Burke County.  Both the 6u coach pitch and 10u softball teams clinched berths in the world series that will be played in Laurel, Mississippi.  The 10u  world series is July 15-20, the 6u is the last week of July.

                                  A Juneteenth celebration was held Saturday morning behind the chamber of commerce and police station.  There were a variety of community groups involved, and a variety of activities available.  A bounce house for kids, face painting, food trucks, shopping, as well as an educational booth about what Juneteenth meant.  Following the festival, a gospel concert was held in the city auditorium.

All Star state tournament play began this week for three Bleckley teams.  In Sandersville- the 8u baseball team beat Hephzibah 14-4 yesterday and beat Crawford County 22-12 today.  They play Irwin County tomorrow at 10:30 am.  Both the 8u and 10u softball teams are in Waynesboro.  The 8u team beat Crawford County 14-2 but lost to host Burke County 10-6.  They'll face Schley County in an elimination game tomorrow at 10 am.  The 10u team defeated host Burke County 10-6 and shut out Seminole County 9-0.  They play for the championship tomorrow at 12:30 pm.

Six BCHS baseball players were selected to the Georgia Dugout Club All State team for Class A Division 1.  First team- Walker Boatright (Utility) and Noah Woodard (Infielder.)  Second team- Gavin Cole (Utility) and Jay Johnson (DH.)  Third team- JD Holloway (Pitcher) and Brody Fleming (Infielder.)

The local based KOHR 8u baseball team won the Perfect Game World Series played this pas weekend in Gulf Shores, Alabama.  The team got  off to a slow start in pool play but won six straight games to claim the title, beating a team from Louisiana for the championship.  KOHR's overall record stands at 114-12-2.
