Registration open for Ocmulgee Mat Rats wrestling team.

Registration is open for the 2026-27 season of the Ocmulgee Mat Rats.  The Mat Rats a local-based youth wrestling team who practice at the Cochran Bleckley Rec. Department.  (They are not associated with CBRD.)  According to a release, wrestlers ages 4-18 are welcomed to practice, but the current tournament circuit is for wrestlers age 14 and under.  The release stated they were looking for tournaments for older wrestlers.  Practice takes place at the rec. department on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-7 pm.  Cost is $75 per participant and includes an Ocmulgee Mat Rats Dri Fit Shirt.  The price of a singlet is still being determined, renting one is $30 and would need to be returned at the end of the season.

The team is expected to attend at least two scuffles.  Scuffles are practice tournaments.  Families should budget around $5 per spectator with the wrestlers being free.  The plan is to attend at least five tournaments.  Tentative dates are 11/21, 12/6, 12/20, 1/3, 1/10, 1/24, and 2/7.  Possible locations include Toombs County, Dublin, Vidalia, and Screven County.  While tournaments are optional, attendance is strongly encouraged.  Families should budget $25 per family, $5 per wrestler for each tournament attended.
