Lassiter discusses upcoming Royals football season.

It was a great 2025 season for BCHS Football.  The Royals finished 9-3, 7-2 in region play.  They  missed upsetting top seed Worth County in the second round of the playoffs by three points, losing 38-35.  Head coach Von Lassiter shared his thoughts on the playoff loss and the upcoming season in an email interview.

On how he felt after losing at Worth County, “We were proud of our effort and it propelled us to a big offseason.”

BC lost seven starters to graduation.  When asked about the offseason, Lassiter said it’d been great and they’re looking forward to a great July.

The Royals hosted OTA’s in June and held their annual FCA event in June.  Lassiter said they’d be traveling to a padded OTA at Rabun County next week.

A big milestone and big numbers happened last year for BCHS.  Lassiter picked up his 100th career win via  a 50-0 victory versus Jefferson County in September.  Brody Fleming put up huge numbers, throwing for 2,583 yards with 30 touchdowns and just six interceptions.  Fleming was ranked first in all of Class A, Division 1, Region 2 and 28th in Georgia overall.   Not surprisingly, Lassiter said they’d be looking for “big things” out of Brody this season.

When asked about whether they’d be stronger on offense or defense Lassiter said, ” I don’t think overall we will be glaringly better on one side or the other. I think that we have some spots on both sides that we have to fill in order to be good. ”

BCHS is back in the 2A classification, region 2-AA after spending the last four years in Class A, Division 1.  It has several traditional football powers, Vidalia, Dodge County, Dublin, and Swainsboro.  Lassiter called the region “the toughest in our classification.”

On what it’ll take to make the playoffs again Lassiter said ,” We just have to play consistently week in and week out. Hopefully we can stay healthy as well. ”

BCHS opens the 2026 season with a scrimmage at Hawkinsville August 7.  Kickoff is 7:30 pm.
