Royals suffer tough home loss to Dublin.

It was rec. department night so players and coaches got to run out with the Royals.

It was a matchup of top 10 teams in Cochran Friday night as the third ranked Royals welcomed fifth-ranked Dublin.  The Irish defeated BC last season at the Shamrock Bowl.

Things appeared to be starting off rough when BC fumbled the ball on their opening drive at the Irish 10.  But on the next play, Dublin fumbled the ball into the endzone.  It was recovered by Willyndrick Walters for a touchdown with 10:25 left.

The student section had a Whiteout theme.

Dublin tied the game on a one-yard touchdown run with 5:11 left.  On their next drive, the Irish converted a fourth and one from the BC 25 and also got an 11-yard touchdown run on fourth and goal early in the second quarter to go up 14-7.  On BC’s next drive, they showed some fourth down resolve, converting a fourth and one from the Irish 43.  The drive was capped by Zyion Love’s one-yard touchdown run with 6:11 left to tie the game.

With 1:55 left in the half,, BC attempted a 29-yard field goal.  The kick was ruled no good though coaches and fans loudly protested believing it was.  With time winding down in the half, Dublin had driven to the BC 10.  As time ran out, Mon Tate picked off a pass at the five.  He dashed 95 yards to the endzone to give the Royals a 21-14 halftime lead.

The Irish though would answer in the third quarter, getting a two-yard touchdown run with 6:03 left.  BC quickly gave the Irish the ball back on the ensuing possession as the Irish intercepted a ball at their 45.  Though the defense would recover a fumble on their own one, they could not move the ball.  Dublin got the ensuing punt at the Royal 35.

With 10:58 left in the fourth, an 11-yard touchdown run gave the Irish the lead.  The PAT was missed following a rekick due to a false start penalty.  On the next drive, BC got to the Dublin six but couldn’t score on fourth down.  The defense would give the offense one more chance after holding Dublin to a three and out.  BC got the ensuing punt at midfield with 5:06 left.

A drive to the Irish 18 stopped first by a false start penalty, a tackle for loss, then unable to convert a fourth and 11 from the 19.  Dublin ran the clock out to win 27-21.  Bleckley travels to Swainsboro Oct. 2.  Kickoff is 7:30 pm.
