Bleckley County Middle School seventh grader Abby Wiegert competed at the USA Gymnastics Georgia XCEL State Championship in Gainesville April 13.

Wiegert is a member of Central Georgia Gymnastics Academy in Dublin. In six previous meets, she had one first place finish, two second place, and three third place. Events were held across Georgia as well as Hilton Head, North Carolina.

At the April 13 meet, she medaled in all four events she participated in: vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercises. Her overall score of 37.825 included a second place finish on balance beam. Wiegert placed third at the meet, placing her in the top six percent of XCEL gymnasts in Georgia.

Wiegert acknowledges the audience while receiving her medal.

Because of her all-around score, Wiegert earned a spot at the Region 8 XCEL Regionals May 3 in Hickory, North Carolina. She’ll compete against 576 other gymnasts from across the southeast including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Wiegert is the daughter of Dave and Emily Wiegert.
