Cochran City Council met Tuesday night with all members present. Before getting to the main business of the evening, there were was special recognition, proclamations read, and presentations made.

Recognized first were winners in the Georgia Cities Week Coloring Contest. Each child received a prize and a certificate. Adelaide Reid got first place in the first and second grade category. In the third and fourth grade category, Trenton Reid got first place and Carter Bryan got second place.
When Mayor Carla Coley began to read several proclamations, she first announced the proclamation for national Hospital week would be read tomorrow. Cochran Bleckley Chamber of Commerce would be providing lunch for hospital employees and the proclamation would be read at 11 am.
The first proclamation read was for National Mental Health Awareness Month. There was no one to receive the proclamation. Chief Brock Wilcher and members of the Cochran Fire Department came forward for the proclamation recognizing International Firefighters Day.
For National Police Week, two proclamations were read. One honoring current police and another to honor those who’d fallen in the line of duty. On hand for both were Chief Jeff Trawick and the family of Officer John Conner.

Conner was shot to death while responding to burglary in 1972. His name is memorialized via the “John Conner Lane” downtown.

A proclamation was read to mark National Public Works Week. On hand to be honored was Cochran Public Works Director Willie Farrow.

In what was a surprise recognition, Interim City Clerk Tiffany Fowler was recognized as part of Professional Municipal Clerks Week.

Fire Chief Brock Wilcher was recognized for his leadership and quick action when he and several firefighters saved a woman from a burning house on Christmas Day. He was also given a plaque in “Appreciation for Leadership and Strengthening Safety and Readiness within the City of Cochran.”

Interim City Manager Angela Redding had two presentations to make. The first was for council members Diane Lester, Rufus Veal, and Trecia Gardner for completing the Newly Elected Municipal Officials Institute in Tifton.
