As part of cancer awareness night, balloons were released into the air symbolizing the different forms of cancer.

BCHS sought to get back on track Friday night against Washington County. Some big plays on offense and a couple of big stops at the end helped the Royals move to 2-1 in the region.

As part of youth football night, rec. department players and coaches got to run out of the tunnel with the team.

The Hawks marched down the field on their opening possession, scoring on a two-yard run. But the point after was missed. Though Bleckley’s first possession ended with an interception, Bryce Bailey’s 74-yard dash with 1:45 left in the first put the Royals ahead when Treg Corner made the PAT.

Bailey had a second touchdown run of 55 yards with 5:12 left in the second. Waco would try to answer, converting a fourth and one from their 41. But with less than a minute left in the half, the BC defense held on fourth and five from the Royal 29.

BCHS led 14-6 going to the half. In the third, the Hawks recovered a fumble on the Royal 48. They would capitalize with a 12-yard touchdown pass. BC still led though as a two-point conversion attempt failed.

However, Waco would take the lead with 2:01 left in the quarter on a 28-yard touchdown run. Another two-point conversion failed. The Royals appeared ready to answer following a 43-yard reception by Marcus Brown. The drive though would stall on BC’s four early in the fourth.

The Hawks were forced to punt. Bleckley got the ball back on the Waco 32 with 6:51 left. They converted a fourth and four from the 12 to keep the drive moving. Bailey capped it with his third rushing touchdown from five yards out. With 4:51 left, BC led 21-18.

Starting from their own 35, Waco drove to the Royal 15 but was stopped on fourth down. They forced a punt and got the ball on their 49 with 1:08 remaining. They would be stopped on fourth and 14 from their 47. BC ran out the clock to win 21-18.

Bailey had 183 yards on 18 carries. Brown caught three passes for 53 yards. Ty Williams led the way on defense with seven tackles, six solo. BCHS plays at East Laurens October 18. Kickoff is 7:30 pm.
