A couple of financial items and personnel matters were on the agenda for a called Board of Education meeting held Wednesday night. It began following a moment of silence for former school employee Marthellis Lunsford who passed away July 9 then an invocation.

First up was a request to increase meal prices for adults from nutrition director Kelli Green. Each was a $.50 increase (breakfast from $1.50 to $2, lunch from $3.50 to $4.) They were based upon increased food costs and a USDA requirement that non-reimbursed meals be priced higher than the reimbursed rate. The motion was passed unanimously.

Next was a request for the purchase of a 72-passenger Type C School Bus from transportation director Stan Thompson. The state will pay $77,220 of the cost. Smith said the remaining difference ($13,630) could be paid out of ESPLOST because SPLOST collections had been so strong. The cost difference is due to the addition of air conditioning. It passed unanimously.

Before going into executive session, there was some discussion over the school reopening information recently released. When asked about the number of students choosing distance learning, Dr. Steve Smith said he expected the final number to be around 11 or 12 percent.

From the executive session: Christy Jones was added as a middle school softball assistant coach, replacing Phillip Hart. Brad Sanders was transferred from BCHS Parapro to Remote Learning Teacher. He had transferred to parapro at 49 percent salary last spring. His coaching supplement for high school girls and boys tennis was also restored. Natalie Goins was named a community assistant coach for the middle school game cheer squad.
