Following a meeting with the State Department of Public Health Monday, the GHSA released a list of guidelines for football game day. All are described as “strongly recommended.”
They include schools having contest day screening procedures, temperature checks, and COVID-19 symptom checks. Face coverings are recommended when traveling to and from vehicles and facilities, as well as athletes not currently playing. It also calls for coaches and other game day personnel to wear masks/face coverings.
Other recommendations include providing hand sanitizing stations, cleaning of benches, athletes bringing their own towels, and teams providing their own water. For groups such as cheerleaders and band, local school administrators are asked to consult with local health departments and health officials to determine who can participate.
Fan attendance at games is also left to individual schools. It’s suggested fan temperatures are assessed before entry, and entry be denied to anyone with a temperature of 100.4 or higher. Social distancing is encouraged, not applying to household members. Face masks/coverings are recommended when possible. Going on the field pre and postgame to talk to athletes is discouraged
Any concessions sold are required to follow state guidelines for "Restaurants, Bars, and Banquet and Catering Facilities/Services" as set fourth in Governor Brian Kemp’s current executive order. Workers should wear masks and gloves. Social distancing should be practiced by those in line.
