In an effort to keep poll workers and election officials safe from COVID-19. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is working with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency as well as Homeland Security to provide PPE to local counties. Raffensperger coordinated with Bleckley County election officials to request masks, face shields, gloves, and disinfecting wipes to protect both elections staff and voters in November.

The request was approved, and items will be shipped to local election officials. “In-person voting remains an important way for Georgia voters to access the ballot so I am doing whatever I can to make that experience safe and easy,” said Raffensperger in a release.

“I want to thank GEMA for their past and continued support of elections in Bleckley County and across Georgia with much-needed personal protective equipment. This will enable our poll workers and local officials to provide safe and secure ballot access to the millions of in-person voters expected in November.”

Bleckley was one of 153 counties to request PPE. They asked for 200 masks, 10 face shields, 5 pairs of gloves, and 10 boxes of disinfectant wipes. Besides the PPE request, an order for 11,000 gallons of hand sanitizer was placed from the Office of the Secretary of State. It will be distributed to counties ahead of the November elections.
