Middle Georgia State University is one of the top regional public universities in the south. That’s according to rankings released by U.S. News and World Reports. In their latest rankings of “Top Public Schools, Regional Colleges South,” MGA was tied for 14th.

The university also moved up five spots from last year’s rankings to tie for 50th in the “regional colleges, south” category. That category includes both public and private universities. MGA also moved up eight places in the rankings of the south’s regional institutions showing the most success in advancing the social mobility of students to 50th.

According to release, the social mobility ranking refers to how well institutions do in advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of students awarded Pell Grants, which are based on family income.

In a statement, University President Dr. Christopher Blake said providing an opportunity for high quality education to students from low-income families fits within the university’s mission. "Part of our mission is to open the door to quality higher education for prospective students who come from financially disadvantaged families,”

He added "That part of our mission fits in well with Middle Georgia State’s overall commitment to work consistently to better serve all of our students and the communities in our primary service region. We value the recognition Middle Georgia State, as a regional university, is receiving as a result of our work.”
