It was a Thursday night special as BCHS opened region play against longtime rival Dodge County. Big offensive plays and a defensive stop in the second half helped the Royals earn their second straight win against the Indians.

Citizens Bank of Cochran was Thursday's game sponsor. Pictured are Touchdown Club President Britt Stewart, Matt Fordham, BJ Coody, Cynthia Howell, Shannon Purvis, and the 2020-21 Junior Board of Directors.

Dodge took a 21-15 lead into halftime thanks to a 34-yard touchdown pass with just seconds remaining in the first half. BC took the lead on their first possession of the third quarter when Jahvon Butler dashed 37 yards to the endzone.

Butler increased the lead on the next possession, this time going 46 yards. With 6:51 remaining in the third, the Royals led 29-21. BC would score on their straight possession, this time Dominic Sasser hitting Jaden Mobly on a 46-yard catch. BC now led 36-21.

Dodge though answered on their next possession with a 75-yard touchdown run. A two-point attempt originally ruled good was later ruled no good because of an ineligible receiver. The Indians though were within 36-27 with 4:53 left in the third.

BC would drive to the Indian nine but backed up, was stopped on fourth and goal from the 20. The game grew closer with 8:51 in the fourth thanks to a 15-yard touchdown run by the Indians. The PAT missed.

The Royals appeared to be driving for a game-clinching score but fumbled on a toss sweep with 4:21 left. Dodge had the ball at their own 22 but failed to move the ball. With 2:58 remaining, a high snap sent the football over the punters head and out of the endzone for a safety.

This safety helped seal the win.

DC had one last gasp, getting the ball at their own 30 with 1:07 left but was stopped on fourth down as the Royals hung on to win 38-33. Butler rushed for 243 yards on 16 carries. Mobley had two catches for 86 yards.

Sasser was 9 of 16 for 168 yards and one touchdown. Chuckie Stephens rushed for 88 yards on 22 carries.

Bleckley plays at Monticello October 16, kickoff is 7:30 pm.
