Cochran Fire and Emergency Services announced the most recent ISO (Insurance Services Office) evaluation received July 22,) They received a Class 4 Public Protection Classification (PPC.) The new rating will take effect November 1 of this year.
ISO classification ratings are on a scale from 1 to 10 and are based upon several criteria including a community's emergency communications systems, fire department, water supply, fire prevention efforts, training, and public fire safety education programs.
According to a release, ISO’s PPC program plays an important role in the underwriting process at insurance companies and most use the PPC information as part of their decision making when deciding coverages to offer and prices to charge.
The improved PPC rating means city residents could potentially see lower fire insurance rates. Said Fire Chief Brock Wilcher in a statement, “I would like to commend the members of my staff that devoted the countless hours of work that went into preparing for the evaluation, as well as the City of Cochran Water Department and Bleckley County 911 Center for their partnerships through this process.”
