The Bleckley County Board of Education met in regular session September 17. There were several financial matters discussed and approved, one of them being the 2025 milage rate.

Approved was the 2025 rollback rate of 14.04, down from the current rate of 14.1. According to meeting minutes, a called meeting will be held to vote on the final milage rate.

Also from the meeting, the FY25 Communities in Schools grant was approved in the amount of $335,970. The FY25 Georgia Prevention and Community Support grant of $96,000 that will fund the sexual risk and avoidance program was approved.

Approved was the selection of Norris Consulting for evaluation of services provided by the 21st Century CCLC program for $10,000. The board approved the purchase of four buses from Yancey Bus Sales (Blue Bird..) The total cost is $547,600, the state will reimburse $352,400 of that amount. The remaining $195,160 will be paid with SPLOST funds.

The board voted to approve matching the FY25 Perkins V allotment of $24,970. Money will be used to fund CTAE programs such as FFA and FBLA.

The only thing of note from the executive session was an update to the FY25 Athletic Staffing plan moving Jeremy Marshall from BCMS boys basketball assistant coach to BCHS boys basketball assistant coach.
