The Bleckley County Board of Education met in regular session Thursday afternoon. It was a relatively quiet meeting.

The big item approved was the FY27 Athletic Staffing Plan for BCHS and BCMS. The only change at the high school will be alum Caroline Gilbert taking over as One Act Play Director, Literary Coordinator, and Royal Singers director for the retiring Kelli Greer.

There were several changes at the middle school. Alex Garnto was named head football coach. He’ll also be the new assistant athletic director, replacing the retired Ray Hardin.

Caroline Chappelear. an assistant coach for BCMS softball last year, is the new head coach. Kaylee Rae Barrs, who served as a third assistant last year, will be a graduate assistant this year. Newly hired Jay Holiday will be an assistant for Barons baseball.

In basketball, Fran McNair returns to the sideline as girls basketball coach. She’ll be assisted by Antonio Farrow. Taking over Farrow’s duties as boys head basketball coach will be Jeremy Marshall. Morris Ross remains assistant and will also take over head track coaching duties for both the boys and the girls.

Anna Grace Dykes will serve as graduate assistant for middle school tennis, taking over for Ashley Herndon. As has been previously reported, Ashey Baubitz and Kayla Cosette will be the head and assistant coach for competition cheerleading, Becky Wilson and Elizabeht Brown both stepped down.

The other thing of note approved came from the consent items. Among them were the FY27 Bleckley Primary Student Handbook and FY27 Student Code of Conduct. To read them, go to

Regarding the FY27 budget, superintendent Dr. Trey Belflower said the FY27 Allotment Sheet hadn’t been released to the schools and a called meeting (which will be publicized) will take place to discuss the tentative budget when it has been.
