Jojo (Spence Greer) meets The Cat in the Hat (Bryson Hollomon.)

Longtime followers of BCHS One Act likely got excited when it was learned this year's cast would be performing "Seussical JR." It was one of the most popular plays performed. Bleckley won region and finished fourth at state.

Horton (Matthew Gilbert) and bird girls performing "Horton Hears a Who."

This year, a new cast of characters are bringing new life into the show based upon the stories of Dr. Seuss. For those unfamiliar, Seussical tells the story of Jojo, who discovers the Cat in the Hat's magical hat. Jojo is played by Spence Greer, the Cat Bryson Hollomon.

The Sour Kangaroo (Caitlyn Bambrough) along with Roo (Davis Grimsley) and the Wickersham Brothers declare Horton "The Biggest Blame Fool in the Jungle of Nool."

From there, through Jojo's "thinks" they're transported to the Jungle of Nool. It's there where we find Horton The Elephant (Matt Gilbert) who just happens to hear cries of help coming from a speck of dust. On that speck are the Citizens of Whoville. Horton of course vows to protect them declaring "a person's a person, no matter how small."

The citizens of Whoville after singing about "the tiniest planet in the sky."

He is mocked by the Sour Kangaroo (Caitlyn Bambrough) and the Wickersham Brothers. They're a gang of mischievous monkeys who think Horton is crazy. The only person to stand up for Horton is Gertrude McFuzz (Emily Dyal.)

Thing One and Two are played by Adriene Allen and Rebekah Bryant. Here they're seen at the end of "It's Possible."

She despertately wants Horton to notice her but feels it won't happen because of her one-feathered tail. Mayzie (Geena Smith) comes along and shows off her beautiful tail and "helps" Gertrude gain more feathers. But does it pay off? You'll have to watch and find out.

Gertrude (Emily Dyal) encounters Mayzie (Geena Smith) and the bird girls.

Horton's other friend is Jojo, who becomes part of the story as the son of the Mayor of Whoville (Peyton Robinson) and his wife (Ashley Strickland.) They worry about all the "thinking" Jojo does and the trouble it can cause.

Gertrude "convinces" Dr. Dake to help her get a bigger tail.

The play, while fun and light hearted, has the messages of being proud of who you are and standing up for others. Lots of excitement is packed into the 55 minutes given to perform.

After pertaking of the pillberry bush, Gertrude declares "I'll have the biggest tail of all!"

Such as the Wickershams stealing the dust speck, Horton sitting on Mayize's egg, and the denizens of Nool versus Horton the Elephant with Judge Yertle the Turtle presiding. The citizens of Whoville are threatened to be boiled in oil.

The Cat has a cat's eye view of the Wickershams trying to keep the speck away from Horton.

Want to see and know it all? Come to Monday's show at 7:30 pm and find out how it all turns out. You can also come to BCHS Thursday morning for Region 4-AA One Act Play competition. It begins at 10 am with Bleckley going on first. Note: per GHSA rules, photography and videography are forbidden during region performances.

Mayzie sings "How lucky you are" to convince Horton to sit on her nest.

Horton is seen in the circus.

Gertrude learns a painful lesson about what kind of tail she needs.

Because of her tail being plucked, she was able to fly to Horton. She also found his clover.

In the end, the Sour Kangaroo declares she will protect Whoville.
