Community News : Fundraisers
An evening of music with Jess and Friends.


Mt. Calvary Baptist Church's Women's Ministry held "Pickin' with Jess and Friends," Saturday night. The event featured a pulled pork dinner and music by Jess Darsey. Attendance was high as 150 tickets were sold. Proceeds will go toward Women's Ministry missions and projects. Mt. Calvary will host a Homecoming Picnic and Concert May 26 following the 11 am service.

Baseball season ends in quarterfinals. ***Updated***

BCHS lost today in the Elite 8 at Prince Avenue Christian. Scores were 15-5 and 7-2. Gavin Cole was 3 for 3 in game one.
Clayton Beck was 2 for 3 in game two. Brady Brannon went 2 for 4. Cole was 1 for 2. BCHS left 14 runners on base in game two.

With school winding down and high school sports over except for playoffs, it was a quiet Friday night in Cochran. Just to give people something to do, Scott Allen at House of Grace Church organized a cornhole contest. Ten teams signed up to compete for the $100 cash prize. There will be a work session/called meeting of the Bleckley County Board of Education May 7 at 5:30 pm in the BOE meeting room located at 259 East Peter Street. The meeting's purpose is to receive updates from the District Leadership Team and any other business to come before the board.

Good finish to year for FFA Forestry Field Day team.

The Bleckley County FFA Forestry Field Day team had a good finish to their season by placing fourth in the state at the Georgia FFA State Forestry Field Day CDE held in Swainsboro. They were also the highest scoring team from the region including the following individual places. Marco Garcia: Second place, reforestation. Shelby Peavy: Second place, land measurement. Brooke Burch: Third place, forest disorders/insect ID. Kale Adkins: Third place, cord volume calculation. Sheyla Morales: Third place, hand compass practicum Wil Holloway: timber stand improvement. Alex Jones/Nate Knox: forest management. Cody Williams: tree ID. John Teston: board foot volume calculation. James Cairney: ocular estimation.
