BCMS Jr. Beta Club members place in top 10 at nationals.

The following Bleckley County Middle School students placed in the top 10 in their events at the Junior Beat Club National Convention held recently in Orlando, Florida. Vada Bloodworth- Second place, Speech. Cole Lewis- Sixth place, Sixth grade math. Anniston Howell- Seventh place, Black and White Photography. Avery McWhorter- Ninth place, Jewelry.

What's closed for July 4?

Friday, July 4 is a federal holiday. All federal, state, and local government offices (city hall, county courthouse) will be closed. Banks will be closed and there will be no mail delivery. Both the Chamber of Commerce and rec. department will be closed. Cocrahn Police Department also announced they would be closed on July 4 via Facebook and instructed citizens to call 911 for emergencies, (478)934-6282 for non emergencies. While national chains such as Walmart will be open, some local businesses may be closed. You should contact the individual business to find out their status.

The Georgia Dugout Club recently announced their All State selections. Seven Royals received honors. First team selections: Braegan Cravey, Clayton Beck, Gavin Cole. Second team: Walker Boatright, Jay Johnson. Honorable mentions: Jay Johnson, Austin Yourn.

City council work session postponed until July 7.

The City of Cochran announced via Facebook tomorrow's monthly council work session has been postponed until July 7 at 6 pm due to a "pest control issue requiring immediate fumigation of the meeting facility." The post goes on to say the agenda for the work session will remain the same and to contact Candace Summeral at City Hall with any questions.

Georgia DOT to suspend construction-related lane closures for July 4 holiday.

The Georgia Department of Transportation announced construction-related lane closures would be suspended on all interstates and state routes from noon July 3 through 10 pm July 5. According to a relase, the move is being made to to ease potential congestion, reduce delays, and increase safety for motorists across the state due to the holiday. Drivers are reminded that crews may still be working, and some closures may remain in place for safety or emergency reasons.
