M&T Meats gift card raffle will go toward Honors Biology trip to Florida Keys.

BCHS Honors Biology is selling chances for two $200 gift cards to M&T Meats (two winners.) Ticket are $5 each or five for $20. Email Ansley Giddens, agiddens@bleckley.k12.ga.us to purchase. Proceeds will go toward the upcoming annual trip to the Florida Keys in March. Drawing will be September 30.

Bleckley School District recognized at Golden Radish Awards.

(Photo courtesy news release.) The Bleckley County School District received two prestigious awards at Tuesday’s Golden Radish Awards Ceremony held in Atlanta. The event, hosted by hosted by Georgia Organics, UGA Cooperative Extension, and the Georgia Departments of Education, Agriculture, Public Health, and the Department of Early Care and Learning, recognizes districts across the state for their farm to school programming. Bleckley received the Platinum Golden Radish Award for the highest level of participation. Pictured L-R: Richard Woods (GA Dept. of Education State Superintendent), Kathleen E. City marks National Recovery Month at council meeting.

September is National Recovery Month, an observance designed to make people aware that treatment can help those with substance abuse and mental health issues live healthy and rewarding lives. To mark the occasion, representatives and residents from Promise of Hope's men's facility were on hand at Tuesday night's city council meeting for a proclamation reading by Mayor Billy Yeomans.

Despite giving up five runs in the first inning against East Laurens, the Lady Royals had numerous opportunities to rally, having at least one runner on base in six of seven innings. But they could muster just one run in a 5-1 loss.
