Team using fall league to help new players "transition" to travel ball.

Local based Surge Fastpitch recently held tryouts for the 2019-20 season. To help newer players get acclimated as well as let players try different positions, the team has been playing in a USSSA Fall Transition League at Southern Pines in Dublin. Surge faces different travel teams, many with the same goals as Surge. Games are officiated by USSSA umpire and have time limits, but teams are only allowed to score five runs in an inning. Coaches believe the experience gained will help the team be ready when tournament season gets into full swing in 2020.

To get some extra time on the state cross country course, the Runnin' Royals traveled to Carrollton for the Carrollton Orthopedic Invitational Saturday. They competed in the "championship races," open races in which the top seven runners from any team competed (all classes) as well as races with A and AA teams. Click the link to read full results. Royals storm back in fourth quarter to win at Telfair County.

The official signals "touchdown" after Marcus Brown's 50-yard reception in the fourth quarter.
Things looked dire with under nine minutes left in the fourth quarter Friday night in McRae as BCHS trailed by 11 points. Little had gone right during the evening. But BC came off the mat, scoring 18 unanswered points to win 28-21.

Large turnout for faith-based women's clinic fundraiser.





A crowd of over 65 people including church and community leaders attended a desert fundraiser for ABC Women’s Clinic held Thursday night at the Cochran Community House. ABC Women’s Clinic is a faith-based clinic providing free services to women who are dealing with unplanned pregnancies including pregnancy tests and sonograms. A Cochran location opened at 150 East Peacock Street earlier this year. Hours are from 10 am to 4 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. You can learn more by visiting abcwomensclinic.com [ Visit Website ]
