Getting ready for some football.

BCHS and BCMS held a joint scrimmage Friday afternoon at Royal Stadium. Admission went to the Barons football program. It featured matchups of eighth grade players versus freshmen/JV, a quarter of Royals varsity vs JV, as well as seventh versus eighth grade scrimmage. BCHS will scrimmage at West Laurens August 16, start time of 7:30 pm. BCMS travels Rochelle Saturday morning for a 9 am jamboree hosted by Wilcox County.

Board of Education to set millage rate, changes October meeting date.

The Bleckley County Board of Education will set the 2019 Millage Rate at their regularly scheduled meeting August 20 at 7 pm. According to a Tweet by the school district, there will be no change in the millage rate. You can view the tax digest and levy along with the tax digest and levy from the past five years by clicking the link. Also, as part of action taken at an August 6 called meeting, the board voted to move the October meeting from October 8 to 10 to avoid conflict with fall break. Start time remains 7 pm. City of Cochran giving away bricks, brick pieces.

The City of Cochran is giving away bricks and brick pieces from a recent demolition project on a first come, first serve basis. Anyone wishing to get bricks or brick pieces can stop by City Hall, 112 W. Dykes Street, during normal business hours to sign up. You must sign a liability waiver prior to pickup and must be accompanied by a city employee while doing so. You are also responsible for the labor of loading the bricks and brick pieces onto a vehicle. After removal, the city has no responsibility for the condition or use of the bricks and brick pieces. Lady Barons lose five-inning game at Toombs County.

As part of a DH with the B Team, BCMS (A Team) lost a five-inning game to Toombs County 6-5. MGMSAA play begins August 12 at Swainsboro. Game time is 4 pm.
