Bleckley Fire Department receives training on Pressurized Container Fire Control.

(Photos courtesy BleckleyProgress.com contributor.) The Bleckley County Fire Department, along with members of the Tifton and Waycross Fire Departments, received training from Georgia Public Safety Training Center instructors on “Pressurized Container Fire Control” Saturday. The training was designed to teach firefighters how to safely approach a burning propane tank or other items that require use of a safety valve to turn off. A large amount of water is required to cool the tank enough so the valve will close. There could also be fire coming from the valve, or the tank could be damaged. In that case, propane would have to simply burn off. The overall goal was to help the firefighter learn how to prevent the tank from exploding.
