The only game in town on New Year's Eve.

As per usual, the holiday season in Cochran has been quiet in terms of things happening. But there was basketball New Year’s Eve afternoon as the Middle Georgia State Knights women hosted the Scotties of Agnes Scott College. MGA is led by Steven Rhodes, hired this past May to replace retired coach Anderson Ligon. The Knights are 10-2, 3-2 in their first season of Peach Belt Conference Play.

As to Wednesday’s game, MGA had a 46-18 halftime lead and cruised to a 72-36 victory. Milanni Abdus-Salaam had 16 points. Ella Pritchard and Kristen Foglia each added 12 points. Conference play resumes January 3 versus Augusta University. The women tip at 1:30 pm with a men’s game to follow at 3:30.

High School Sports
Basketball teams split games.

Jason McNulty had 18 points and Marty Beck added 12 points as the Royals defeated North Paulding 48-40 at the Model Big Blue Classic Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Royals fell to Shiloh High School 48-44 at the Banks County Jingle Jam. Region play resumes January 3 at Dodge County. Girls tip at 5 pm with boys to follow.

Updated New Year's hours for Bleckley County Courthouse.

In a flyer posted on Facebook, it was announced the Bleckley County Courthouse will close tomorrow at noon for New Year's Eve and will be closed New Year's Day. The flyer also stated the Bleckley County Transfer Station would be closed January 1.

High School Sports
Tough day up north for BCHS basketball.

Both the Royals and Lady Royals traveled to North Georgia for games Monday. The Royals were at the Big Blue Classic to take on host Model. They lost 71-42, Marty Beck had 13 points. The Lady Royals were in Homerville to take on host Banks County at the Jingle Jan. They lost 67-46. The boys return to Model tomorrow to take on North Paulding at 3 pm. The girls will play again at Banks County, details not known.
