Local teams try to survive the madness.

Two local-based travel softball teams were in Cordele Saturday for the USSSA's "May Madness." Prospex 04, a 14u team, played in the high school division.
They won their first bracket game but lost the next two, eliminated by Cage 3-1.

(Courtesy contributor.) Surge 10u played for a second straight Saturday following last weekend's rainout in Dublin. They fell into the loser's bracket then endured a wait over three hours before playing.
The team though fought all the way to the title game, losing to the Grass Stains 4-3. Surge is pictured with coaches Dylan Barton and Chris Adams.

Community News : Fundraisers
Big night helps fund Royals football.

(Third photo courtesy contributor.) Saturday night was a time to support Royals football as a large crowd came for the first ever reverse raffle held inside the high school gym. While at most raffles, the goal is to have your number called, not having your number called kept you in the running for the prize of $10,000. Those eliminated could “buy back in” with tickets that started at $50 but went up as the numbers were read. There was also a silent auction as well as tickets for door prizes sold. Attendees not only spent money, they also enjoyed a steak dinner. In the end, Ken Youngblood, Jackie Bowen, and coach Stacey Nobles were the co-winners. Proceeds from the night will benefit the team.

The team is pictured with coaches Craig Chapman, Jonathan Fordham, and Shane Savant.
