Well known and loved community figure celebrated.

Chris Harris was a big part of the Bleckley County community. A Cochran native and Bleckley County High School graduate, he owned Choice fitness and was a manager at Piggly Wiggly. He served on the Cochran Bleckley Rec. Department board. He kept stats for Royals football. He was a mentor to many students. Harris passed away suddenly in 2012. Friday was his birthday. That afternoon, a celebration of his life was held at the rec department. People enjoyed hot dogs and fellowship with green, orange, and white balloons adorning the pavilion., There were green and orange cupcake. Green, orange, and white are the colors of the Miami Hurricanes, Harris� favorite team. The Chris Harris Memorial Scholarship was established recently, it�s for eligible local students. I'm sorry I forgot to post the pictures I received with the middle school golf article yesterday. I'm sorry it was in the wrong category. I'm sorry about the mistakes lately. I won't bore you with every detail, but my mind has been many places at once. Besides work, the work finances are a wreck, and some home things going on amongst other things. I promise you I'm trying my best. It's just things have been happening lately. Please don't give up on me.

A time to shine for some special athletes.

(Photos courtesy Bleckley County Schools Facebook page.) The Heart of Georgia Special Olympics was held Thursday morning at BCHS. Athletes from Bleckley, Doge, Pulaski, and Wilcox counties participated. Local first responders were in attendance, Cochran Police Department, Bleckley County Fire Department, Cochran Fire and Emergency Services, Bleckley County Sheriff�s Office, and Heartland EMS. Domino�s provided lunch. The theme for this year�s event was �Better Together.�
