A better day for BCHS at Houston County.
BCHS had a much cleaner, sharper routine at the Middle Georgia Cheer Classic Saturday en route to a second place finish.
A good debut for BCMS Cheerleaders.

The BCMS Competition Cheerleaders made their season debut Saturday morning at the Middle Georgia Cheer Classic hosted by Houston County High School. They finished second place in the small school division. The Barons will beat Mary Persons High School Oct. 3 for the Cheer Dawg Classic. It starts at 3:30 pm.
BCMS runner wins Wingfoot Classic.
IMG_1514_20260919_213029 Jasper Faulk is an eighth grade member of the BCMS Cross Country Team. Saturday, he competed at the Wingfoot XC Classic in Cartersville, sponsored by the Atlanta Track Club. Faulk won the the Middle School Boys race with a time of 9:49.8 In a text message from head coach Shelly Cranford sharing the news, he calledWingfoot "One of the biggest, most prestigious races in the state."
Barons football season ends.
BCMS Football had a tough end to the season losing 28-0 at East Laurens Wednesday afternoon.
Homecoming at Longstreet Methodist Church September 20.
Historic Longstreet Methodist Church will celebrate Homecoming September 20. Worship is at 11 am, Rev. Don Adams guest speaker. A covered dish lunch will follow.
Remembering the heroes and sacrifices of 9/11.
(Photos contributed.) A memorial walk for 9/11 was held Friday morning. Sponsored by Cochran Fire Department, it began with remarks at the station. The walk began at 10:28 am, the moment when the moment the north tower fell. The walk included firemen and other first responders as well as community members. They walked from the fire station to the Eastgate Plaza parking lot.
Lady Barons open season in Jones County.
BCMS softball kicked off their season Saturday at tournament in Jones County. Though they defeated Henderson Middle School 8-5, they lost 2-0 to Pike County and fell to Monroe County Middle School 7-5. BC opens the regular season August 10 at Telfair County. Game time is 5 pm.
Local musician fills in nicely at Second Saturday.
Dustin Simmons wasn't t the artist originally scheduled to perform at Second Saturday but was a late fill-in due to a scheduling conflict. Simmons got a few friends together and practiced a couple of times. The result was an enjoyable mix of music including classic rock, country, and Christian. Second Saturday wraps up September 12 with Daniel NeSmith.
Retiring Library Branch Manager recognized for years of service.
Mike Davis with Gina Thomas. (Photos contributed.) Retiring Tessie W. Norris/Cochran-Bleckley Library Branch Managed Gina Thomas was recognized Friday for years of service. Commissioner Mike Davis presented a plaque honoring her for her dedication to "literacy, public service and the community. " A proclamation was signed marking July 31 as "Mrs. Gina Thomas Day."
Back to School Fun Bash held.
Another back to school event was held Saturday as two Prince Hall Masonry Chapters, Jeremiah 182 and Elmirah 77 hosted a Back to School Fun Bash. It was hosted at the Jeremiah 182 lodge. Prince Hall Masonry is a branch of freemasonry for blacks founded in 1784. The Jeremiah Chapter has been in existence since the 80's but only recently began doing community outreach. At this event, children could get backpacks of school supplies, hamburgers and hot dogs were available to eat, plus a game truck was on site.

Local church opening food bank May 29.
Faith Temple Precious Faith Ministries will open their food bank May 29 from 3 to 3:30 pm. According to a Facebook post announcing the food bank, there will also be an agency present to provide assistance and support for individuals and families who receive SNAP benefits. Faith Temple is located at 383 GA. 87.
