Retirement ceremony held for two longtime MGA coaches.
Director of Athletics Michael Brown was emcee. He had a one last yellow card for Gill in honor of mis may years of arguing with officials.
Coach Vinny Gill.
Coach Scott Moe.
Both coaches with a gift of appreciation from the university.
Both Middle Georgia State University Women’s Soccer Head Coach Vinny Gill and Men’s Basketball Head Coach shared similar coaching history. Gill had been at MGA for 20 years, Moe for 26. Gill had 382 wins, Moe 399. Both have lead teams to the NJCAA and NAIA national playoffs. So it seemed only fitting that a retirement ceremony was held for both on the same day. The ceremony took place Thursday afternoon in Alderman Hall. Both coaches spoke. Gill talked about some of the many moments he’d had as coach including a late-night stop at a Denny’s on the way home from a playoff game and practicing penalty kicks in the rain. He spoke of the importance of creating and cherishing moments. Moe shared moments about his history as both a coach and teacher, his family, and appreciation of the many people who had supported him over the years. He officially announced this season, his 27th, would be his last. He spoke to his team who was in attendance saying “It’s about us now.” In speaking of his team, he also said he couldn’t have chosen a better group of guys to go out with for his final season. President Christopher Blake had brief remarks at the end thanking both men for their commitment to the students, the university, and the community and wished them well.
