BCHS returned to the field against longtime rival Dublin Friday. It was the first meeting between the schools since 2011. The Royals also sought to spoil Dublin's Homecoming.

DHS returned the opening kickoff to midfield. They drove down the field and scored from one yard out with with 7:44 left to go up 7-0. Bleckley answered late in the half. On fourth and six from the 27, Austin Simmons' hit a wide open LaDarrick Vickers. The halfback pass went 26 yards. It was 7-7 with 1:54 left.

In the second, the Royal defense held when Dublin went for it on fourth and three from the Royal 37. Late in the half, Tae Holiday picked off a pass and returned it to the Irish 19. Cody Evans scored from nine yards out. BC had their first lead of the season, 14-7 at halftime.

Set up by a Vickers 54-yard run in the third, Evans snuck it in from a yard out as the lead grew to 21-7 with 9:36 left. Dublin though would answer. A one-yard touchdown run with 5:30 remaining made it 21-13. The point after was blocked. BCHS again answered and converted a fourth and 1 on Dublin's 48 to keep their drive alive.

Evans connected with Caleb Wynne from four yards out with 1:05 left and it was 28-13. The Irish though would not go quietly. With 9:59 left in the game, a touchdown pass and two point conversion made it 28-21. Late in the game, Dublin went for a fake punt deep in their own territory.

It was not successful and BC was on the Irish 27. They drove to the three but were puhed back by two penalties A 38-yard field goal was short. Dublin put together one last drive, aided by a personal foul. However, the Royal defense held on fourth and 11 from their 16. Bleckley ran out the clock to win 28-21.
According to the Georgia High School Football Historian's Association (ghsfha.org) , it was the first time in 11 meetings that Bleckley won. The rushing game had a season best 221 yards including 133 in the second half. Vickers had seven carries for 85 yards. Anthony Wright had 17 carries for 66 yards.

Bleckley hosts Berrien County September 26. Kickoff is 7:30 pm. There will be a "blue out" for prostate cancer awareness.
