Local radiology tech student learns essential skill in practicing for exam.

Samantha Corbin of Cochran, a radiology technology major at Oconee Fall Line Technical College, was among a group of students in the lab recently practicing for an exam on x-ray positioning of the hips and pelvis, an essential skill for radiology techs to know. Bleckley Elementary receives shape grant.

Bleckley Elementary was recently awarded a shape grant by the Georgia Department of Public Health. The grant’s purpose is to help enhance school nutrition education efforts that will outcome measures associated with the Georgia School Health and Physical Education Act. Grant efforts include installing a water bottle filling station as well as beverage dispensers for fruit infused waters for teachers and students to promote water as a health beverage
The grant also targets fruit and vegetable consumption by including fruit and vegetable taste test kits as well as classroom kits teachers can use. The school nutrition program conducted taste tests of fruits and vegetables allowing students the chance to try fruits and vegetables they’d never tried before.


The kits have allowed teachers to hold “cooking” lessons with students. Community organizations such as 21st Century After School program and Bleckley County 4-H also were involved in the fruit and vegetable and water promotion with elementary age students.

No momentum as Lady Barons fall to West Laurens. ***Updated***

Though the Lady Barons lost their last game to J.R. Trippe, the team had their best offensive output. BC scored six runs, all in the final two innings. However, that momentum faded Monday against West Laurens.
The Lady Raiders built a 5-0 lead after three innings. BC couldn’t capitalize on a two on, one out opportunity in the first. Emmy Williams singled to lead off the third but was doubled off.


Down 8-0 in the fourth, Bleckley had two on with two outs twice. The first was erased via a double play, the second with two outs produced no runs. An eight-run fifth capped the Lady Barons 14-0 loss. Williams and Emma Wilson were both 1 for 2. BCMS returns to action September 8 at Swainsboro.

Called BOE meeting September 3.

There will be a called meeting of the Bleckley County Board of Education September 3 at 6 pm in the board meeting room. According to a post on the district website, the meeting’s purpose is to review bids and pricing for Phase II of the new primary school project, handle some personnel matters. meet with BCHS Administrators to discuss quarantines and how they are addressing those, and any other business to come before the board.
