Community News
April 17 declared "Chris Harris Day."

At Tuesday night’s city council meeting, Mayor Carla Coley signed a proclamation designating April 17, 2026 as “Chris Harris Day.” Harris was a well known member of the community. He kept football stats for BCHS, served as a member of the rec. department board, and also owned Choice Fitness. Harris passed suddenly in 2012. Harris’ daughter, Chrystal Harris-Randall established the Chris Harris Memorial Scholarship which eligible BCHS seniors can apply for. (Copy of proclamation pulled from Facebook.)
April 17 is Harris’ birthday so a celebration will be held at the Cochran Bleckley Rec. Department from 4:30 to 7 pm. There will be inflatables along with free hot dogs, chips, drinks, and cake while supplies last.
