Cheerleaders will look to rebound after tough day at region.
It was an early morning for BCHS as they traveled to Vidalia High School for region/sectional competition. The first session, which also included regions one and three in division 2A started at 10 am.
BC was the third squad to compete. Despite the drive and early time, a large group of friends and family were on hand to support them. The familiar chant of “Bleckley County” broke out as the squad prepared to take the mat.
The crowd roared as they entered. Bleckley got off to a good enough start. But while the effort was great throughout the routine, there were frustrations with the execution, specifically with the stunt groups. There were issues with girls staying in the air. Still, BC received a loud ovation after the music stopped.
While waiting for results senior cheerleaders from all squads were recognzied.
When results were announced, BC’s name wasn’t called. That meant a waiting game to see if they would make the top 16. Early Saturday evening, the top 16 were posted for class 2A. Bleckley’s name was on the list.
The squad with coaches Emily Raley and Heather Davis.
They’ll compete in the 29th straight state final appearance for BCHS cheerleading November 14 at the Macon Coliseum. A quick history note, starting in 2017, Bleckley has been called to the mat eight of nine years at state. They’ve won two state titles, and a state runner up. Only twice in that span did BC go to state as region champion.
