While Bleckley County hasn't executed its routine perfectly in every cheerleading competition this season, there's been little doubt it has a high degree of difficulty. Soimetimes that difficutly and ability to bounce back can be rewarded.
The Royals were the last of eight squads in the AA division of the Falcon Cheer Invitational held at East Laurens on October 14. As is always the case, Bleckley had a good turnout of supporters. And you could hear them cheering and helping to get the squad fired up before they entered the gym.
The performance for the Royals had some good and some bad. The jumps looked much more crisp. Despite someone appearing to slip at the end of the last tumbling sequence, it looked solid overall. However, there was a drop of one of the single-base stunts. (A stunt in which one cheerleader lifts another by themselves.) And there appeared to be some timing issues on the last two stunts though both went up and stuck perfectly.
The key was that Bleckley did not allow the early drop to disrupt their concentration. They were able to put on an overall solid performance that got a great ovation not only from Bleckley supporters, but other fans as well.
The wait for results was relatively short despite 24 squads overall competing. In Class AA, third place: Screven County. Second place: Fitzgerald High School. And your AA Champion of the 2006 Falcon Invitational: Bleckley County High School! The scream of joy was also one of relief as BCHS was against several tough squads on this day. It also marked another win for the Royals in East Laurens. BCHS has won every regular-season competition at East Laurens for at least the past six years.
The Royals will be competing at Dacula High School on October 21.
